The Studio
Kristin’s studio was custom built for her when she moved from downtown Apalachicola to her present location in 1999. Kristinworks is located a few miles outside of town in a beautiful forested location on the side of one of the creeks that flow into the Apalachicola River just above town. Her studio is built in the shape of a ship’s wheel house with roomy work areas arranged around the perimeter, each station having its own windows looking out on the beautiful forest behind the studio. Her main design desk and work area are at the center, and then there are dual work stations on each side, built to accommodate Kristin and a student, with duplicate tools available so the student can pursue projects along side of but independently with the teacher.
The Teaching Method
There is no more productive or enjoyable way to learn the fine art of jewelry making, metalsmithing and enameling skills that Kristin puts to use every day than the hands on process of doing it yourself that Kristin employs with her students. Kristin is in the studio with her student, always one on one, as she works alongside and supervises the work of the student, passing along guidance and instruction while allowing the student to participate fully in the creative process.
